Part of what I love about the girls' names is that they were both popular 100 years ago and many people with those names are now great-grandmas. Both names evoke a vision for me of sweet old ladies rocking away together on a porch. I pray Ella and Sadie will live meaningful lives full of love and will be enjoying each other on a front porch somewhere many years from now.

LIFE: Birth through 15 Months

Ella…

BIRTH
Nov 15th, 2005
*She was born at 12:48am on Tuesday November 15th after I was induced at 5:30am on the 14th. She was wisked off the the nursery to be put on antibiotics because of my 102 degree fever for the last half of my labor. She weighed 7lbs 13oz and was 21 inches long.

ONE MONTH OLD
Nov 15-Dec 15
*Ella reached 8lbs 9oz by December 13th when she went for her one month check up!

TWO MONTHS OLD
Dec 15-Jan15
*January 13th- 10lbs even

THREE MONTHS OLD
Jan 15-Feb 15
*February 6th- 11lbs 4oz and 23 ¾ inches long
*Started holding her head up pretty well at about 10 weeks!
*First social smiles at 4 weeks but very few and far between until about 10 weeks
*12 Weeks-started laughing and vocalizing a lot-almost yelling/bird sounds
*12 Weeks-hates being in her heavy coat and strapped into her car seat-screams!!
*13 Weeks-vocalizing increasing, starting to reach for toys-not very consistently or
accurately but she has definitely held toys in her hand now by her own volition

FOUR MONTHS OLD
Feb 15-March 15
*She just started wearing size 3-6 month clothes and size 2 diapers!
*As of March 14, 2006 she weighs 12lbs 14 ½ oz and is 62 cm long!
*Ella is “talking” a ton and pushed herself up on her elbows while on her stomach yesterday! She is getting close to rolling over J She truly plays with her toys and this week has started putting them in her mouth.
*Ella is getting so big! She learned to take a bottle after about 2 months of refusing L
*Started liking/using exersaucer at about 4 months (until 10 months)
*4 ½ months She is using her hands in a whole new way-touching people and their faces anytime they hold her or are near her. She’s starting to hold her arms out to be picked up!
*4 ½ months She still loves putting everything in her mouth and is definitely teething (drooling, diarrhea, wanting to nurse but then stopping and crying and starting again) (or so I thought!)

FIVE MONTHS OLD
March 15-April 15
*April 10th, at almost 5 months old Ella just started rolling over both ways! She didn’t even really try before and all of a sudden she just does it both ways!!
*Still loves standing up and has really strong legs! Even without hardly any intentional tummy time (because she screams hysterically) she will now do it and can totally hold herself up on her arms and looks all around.
*Starting at about 5 ½ months she started making lots of new sounds every few days.
*Started firm napping schedule at about 5 months.
*Loves walking with someone holding her hands-started doing that at about 5 ½ months.

SIX MONTHS OLD
April 15-May 15
*Started solid foods at almost 6 months old-wasn’t really interested before that-learned to eat from a spoon very quickly and liked all the vegetables we tried. Rice and Barley Cereal both made her constipated (cried when she pooped, little hard pellets) but oatmeal was better.
*Can sit up by herself pretty well at 6 ½ months. Still will fall over after a few minutes.
*Turns pages of books, still LOVES reading

*seems to associate “dada” with Chris but also calls everything else dada
*loves “reading” by herself, wil sit and look at books for a long time, has always let me read to her for a long time (probably up to 45 min-this changed around 12 months because she wanted to get down and move around since she’s more mobile)

*really likes :cheerios, goldfish, graham crackers, most bread
*usually likes :olives, green beans, canned fruit (all kinds), string cheese, grapes

*Constipation: after a few weeks started having really painful, hard bowel movements, doctor said to cut out foods like applesauce and bananas, increase fiber (whole wheat cheerios, graham crackers, veg), limit dairy to 3 8oz servings per day; gave her mixture of apple juice, prune juice, and water every night for a few nights and she’s been fine every since (still has juice mixture every day at some point, eventually cut out juice all together and she’s fine)
*Started responding a lot to music-bouncing, “dancing,” humming along and to herself
*Got new forward facing, permanent car seat

THIRTEEN MONTHS OLD
Dec 15-Jan 15
*Really noticeable change this month in her ability to understand/interact! SOOO exciting! She laughs SOOO much more, smiles all the time, loves giving kisses (blowing kisses or open mouth kisses or just putting her forehead to yours)

*starting to have some separation anxiety and cry when she doesn’t get what she wants or I won’t let her play with something
