Sadie is such a sweetheart! I knew I LOVED babies but this is overwhelming! I LOVE BABIES! I would seriously be happy for her to stay 2 or 3 months old for a long, long time. She is sweet and smiley and started sleeping through the night at 8 weeks-what more can you ask for??? She relapsed a little with sleeping for a few days here and there (when Chris was out of town-Murphy's law? and while she had a little cold). But, she seems to be back on track for the routine we've gotten into. She eats every 2-3 hours during the day and then nurses at 8pm, goes to sleep in her bed, then Chris does a "dream feed" bottle (she doesn't wake up for this) around 11pm and she sleeps til 7 or 8am! Don't hate me. This is a much prayed for blessing from the Lord and I hope it lasts!
At this point Sadie is a bit over 11lbs which puts her between the 25th and 50th percentiles for weight. She had a rough start with weight so I'm thrilled to see her thriving and nursing well. She outgrew newborn diapers around 10 weeks old and is officially too big to get into her newborn clothes as of this week. Bring on the 0-3 month clothes-we have so many cute outfits to get through before she outgrows them!
For the most part she's a pretty content baby-more so than Ella was I think. She doesn't mind baths, the dog licking her, Ella singing loudly in her face, or even getting boogers sucked out of her nose with the bulb syringe. She loves her swing (it's magical, she is almost always content in it), nursing, falling asleep in the car, laying on her back and kicking around, and riding face-out in the Baby Bjorn carrier. She does not like when the car is not in motion, waiting to eat, and overstimulation. Like Ella, she's a pacifier fan but she doesn't use it to fall asleep at night but she will take it if she wakes up to soothe herself. Unlike Ella, Sadie doesn't love swaddling. She tolerates it but doesn't seem to need it to fall asleep like Ella did.
Of course, at this point, Sadie can do no wrong and I really have found myself in tears many times as deep joy and gratitude bubble up from inside me. I am so thankful for this child. I want to wake her up to just hold her or see her smile at night sometimes-I'm just that in love. I see plaques and picture frames in stores all the time that say "For this child we have prayed." Boy is that true of this little girl. I love you with my whole self Sadie Grace and will be forever grateful that God gave us you.
Part of what I love about the girls' names is that they were both popular 100 years ago and many people with those names are now great-grandmas. Both names evoke a vision for me of sweet old ladies rocking away together on a porch. I pray Ella and Sadie will live meaningful lives full of love and will be enjoying each other on a front porch somewhere many years from now.

Rest Time Photo Story
In an attempt to get Ella to go to rest time without whining I told her that I was going to let her take the camera with her and she could take pictures of whatever she wanted and we could look at them together when rest time was done. She took on the challenge (and the warning to not break the camera) and here are some of her (unedited by me) pictures :-) It's part tour of her room, part art projects, part self-portrait :-) My favorite are how she used tiles from her "Don't break the ice" game to spell out individual letters of her name! So creative! We'll definitely be doing this again :-)

Only with a big sister...
This is what happens to you when you have an almost 5 year old sister. You get daddy's socks tucked into your clothes to "keep you warm" :-)

Maize Quest!
We took a little road trip yesterday with our Life Group (small group from church that we hang out with/study the bible with every other week) for a fall fun day! It was great as the pics will show...

Having this picture of the map in the camera proved INVALUABLE while we were in the maze! It was hard!
Sadie slept through the maze
Yomi leading the way
Ella LOVED being at the front of the pack and choosing which direction to go :-)
Aaron liked holding on to the "wave it if you get lost" flag :-)
At attempt at a family pic in the maze. One kid sleeping, one not looking. Not bad though :-)

Mornings these days
I've discovered that Ella's deep love for Sadie and her obsession with her cuteness exists even when she first opens her eyes in the morning. So, I've started bringing Sadie into her room in the mornings and laying her right next to Ella to wake her up. Every morning Ella opens her eyes, sees Sadie inches away from her and a huge smile spreads over her face and she says in a groggy but high pitched baby-talk voice "Good morning Sister!" and is up for the day happily. If I go in by myself to wake her up (since she's started ignoring her alarm) she burrows under the covers and requires being dragged out of bed. I hope the Sadie trick works for a long time to come :-) Such pleasant mornings!
This is what an almost 5 year ago difference looks like! Ella seems SO tall to me now!

A few days ago, I told Ella to leave Sadie in the middle of the bed and to get dressed for school. I came back a few minutes later and Ella built Sadie a "fort" so she couldn't roll off the bed. A pillow on one side and stuffed animals lined up on guard on the other :-)
Back to school Night!
Ella is back at a nearby preschool for the 3rd year! She loves it there and is now going for 2 1/2 hrs 5 days a week! We've worked our way up from 2 days and this year is preparation for full day kindergarten next year. I was nervous about every day but we've gotten into the routine pretty easily and I love having the mornings with Sadie and to see friends and run errands. Ella has some really good friends at school, loves all the projects and loves Ms.Amy and Ms. Terry, her new teachers. She is always excited to go to school! Here are a few back to school night pics from the tour she gave us of her classroom.
Of all 18 caterpillars on the wall, Ella's was the only one that had any writing on it "Ella to:Sadie" SO cute!!

First is not always best...
Here's our first family picture since Sadie was born and the first picture of me with my little baby since the hospital. Neither are great but they'll make me remember these sweet moments and that's what pictures are for right? :-)
