Part of what I love about the girls' names is that they were both popular 100 years ago and many people with those names are now great-grandmas. Both names evoke a vision for me of sweet old ladies rocking away together on a porch. I pray Ella and Sadie will live meaningful lives full of love and will be enjoying each other on a front porch somewhere many years from now.

SIX MONTHS!!!

Sadie is 6 months old!!!  My poor heart can barely take it!  She's so cute and it's going SO fast!  Enjoying every little moment though :-) Here's the current info:

*SIZE: At her 6 month appt Sadie was 15lbs 1.5 oz (27th percentile) and 35th percentile for length.  The Dr. is happy with her growth and she is quite chubby so I have no concerns!

*FOOD: We started food on her 6 month "birthday!"  She seemed clearly interested in food but spit out most of the rice cereal and made horrible faces. After 3 days of trying it my intuition told me it just tasted nasty and she'd eat if it tasted better.  So, I got out some green beans and mixed it in to the cereal and she ate an entire bowl!  So far she's also tried banana, sweet potatoes, avacado, and applesauce. And I have carrots in the magic bullet right now so we'll see how she likes those for lunch!   She still nurses around 8, 12, 4, and 8.

*SLEEP: We're trying to drop Sadie's late night feeding (she goes down between 7 and 8pm and we give her a bottle around 10-11pm and then she sleeps til 7-8am).  Last night was the first attempt and she didn't wake up at all!!  She slept til 7am with no 10pm feed!  Hope this sticks!!  She's napping around 10am and 2pm (give or take 30 min).  She's not super predictable with how long she'll nap.  Some days 45 min, some days 1.5 hrs.  Some days 2+hrs.  She'll get more predictable I'm sure.

*GROWTH: Her 6 month grwoth spurt was crazy!  She went from nursing 4x a day and 1 bottle at night to starting food and wanting to eat 3 full bowls of food a day!  And wanting an extra feeding around 9pm.  Craziness.

*DEVELOPMENT: She's grabbing at everything now and though not mobile, it won't be long til she's scooting around.  She has started to pivot in a circle a little if you lay her on her back on the floor.  -She's still very smiley and unless she's hungry or tired, pretty content :-)
-still only rolls from front to back
-sits up for a little while at a time but still falls over easily
-puts EVERYTHING in her mouth

*Random Sadie fact: she often makes little circles with her toes, twirling her ankle around.  When she's nursing or just playing with a toy or something.  One foot is almost always going around in little circles-it's so cute!

Ella had fun getting in on Sadie's first feeding!

Noah the Monkey is looking smaller and smaller!

Sadie is 5 months old!!

I can't believe Sadie is 5 months old.  I still feel like it's going way too fast.  She has her fussy moments but for the most part she's a smiley, content, sweet baby.  She's been sick a lot over the last few months (various colds and one that turned into bronchiolitis) and is still fighting a cough but has been happy through all of it!  She's still getting one late night dream feed (11pm) and we're hoping to drop that feeding soon and she'll be a 11-12 hrs a night sleeper!  She's trying to sit up by herself and is becoming pretty good at rolling from front to back.  She's been fighting naps a bit which probably mirrors my ambivalence about getting into a set nap schedule (it's hard to think of staying home for longer morning and afternoon naps every day).  Anyway, here are some pics!  We are SO in love with Sadie our "baby lady." (you'll notice Ella wanted to get in on the photo shoot too!)

This is a dreadful expression on Sadie's face but it captures the comparison to Noah the monkey so well-Sadie's getting SO big, SO fast!

Sadie and Noah-3 months old!

As I've seen many friends do, I'm going to try to start taking Sadie's picture with the same "object" every month as a visual monitor of her growth.  So, here's Sadie at 3 months old with Noah, the beloved monkey Chris and I made at Build-a-Bear 7 years ago right before he left for Iraq.  Sadie's already outgrown him!

Some info about Sadie at three months...

*She is still a really good, sweet, easy baby.  She doesn't cry much-just if she gets too hungry or tired.

*She's been congested for 3 weeks now.  It's so sad-she sounds horrible but we've been to the doctor and had phone consults and its just something that will have to pass on its own.  She seems to feel fine, hasn't had a fever at all, and not even a runny nose-she just sounds like there's stuff rattling around in there all the time.

*The congestion has affected her sleep and she's been waking up 1-3 times during the night for about 3 weeks :-(  This has been a shock to my system after a few weeks of sleeping through the night!

*She continues to love the swing (it's magical I tell you!) and is almost always content there.

*She has fallen easily into a Eat-Play-Sleep routine and is super smiley and in a great mood right after eating.  Her favorite thing seems to be to just lay on her back and kick around and chatter.  She makes mostly "oooo" sounds at this point.

*in week 13 she has started to be interested in toys and stare at them and sort of reach for them (still seems a bit accidental if she does get a toy in her hand)

*She's still eating every 2-3 hrs all day and then goes to bed around 8pm when i nurse her for the last time.  Chris does a dream feed at 11pm (we tried to skip this a couple times but she is not ready, which is no big deal).  And with this cold/growth spurt in the last few weeks I've fed her during the night but she stopped eating as well during the day so I've stopped doing that so she eats again at 7 or 8am.

*She's been a hero (like her big sister) about just going to sleep quietly in her crib while drowsy but awake after a short bedtime routine (nurse, burp, sing 2 two songs-one while holding, one while she's laying down, pacifier if she wants it, stroke her head, leave).  I PRAY this lasts!

*She likes playing "the tongue game" and will often initiate it by sticking her tongue out and getting us to do it after her.  It's so cute!

*When we went to the dr. for her cold they weighed her with clothes and diaper on and she was a tiny bit over 12lbs!  She's bigger than Ella was at this age and started off a pound smaller! No weight gain issues here anymore!
