Part of what I love about the girls' names is that they were both popular 100 years ago and many people with those names are now great-grandmas. Both names evoke a vision for me of sweet old ladies rocking away together on a porch. I pray Ella and Sadie will live meaningful lives full of love and will be enjoying each other on a front porch somewhere many years from now.

Photo Class-Assignement #3

I missed an assignment in Amy's Photo Class but here's the one for this week!

We're supposed to work on taking pics without clutter-making sure the subject can truly be identified as such instead of "fighting" with the things in the background. So, here are a few that I think came out pretty well.

This one is "what not to do" with that random guy's head in the corner

not perfect but better with only random guy's shoulder :-)

Both taken with a Canon Rebel T1i
Focal Length: 50mm
Shutter Speed: 1/400
Aperture: f/2.0
ISO: 3200

I like this one because 1) my husband is hot and 2)he's so sharply in focus and the things in the background (though only about 2 feet away) are so blurry you can't tell what they are

Taken with a Canon Rebel T1i
Focal Length: 50mm
Shutter Speed: 1/125
Aperture: f/1.8
ISO: 3200

My nephew Silas-so up close, there's no room for clutter!

Taken with a Canon Rebel T1i
Focal Length: 50mm
Shutter Speed: 1/60
Aperture: f/4.0
ISO: 400

Silas is 1!!

Chris' older brother and his wife Ping have an adorable son who just turned one! This week we got to celebrate at his birthday party plus we got to have him over to play one morning. We also found out this week that Ping's mom got a visa and will be able to visit from China for the birth of their second child in a couple months! An exciting week for that branch of the family and we're thrilled for them :-) Bring on cousin #4!

Ping and Aunt Amy setting up for a Chinese traditional ceremony at the birthday party

Each object represents a career and whatever Silas plays with the longest will be his career! The results: an athlete! He really might be an NBA star if he takes after his dad's height-he already weighs only 3lbs less than Ella and they are THREE years apart in age!!

Believe it or not, this was the best pic from our playdate :-)

Isn't he adorable??

Fun with Friends

We had a fun few days with friends recently. The Kim girls are a BLAST and somehow Hanna and Ella get along without any of the toddler squabbles ("it's mine!" "no, it's mine!"). It's shocking how long they can play together and need no parental intervention...I hope it lasts! Ella also had a fun morning with her cousins (supervised by Chris) while Amy and I had a morning off. Good times all around.

Ella's gaudy-ness was greatly indulged with Hanna's necklace stash

All three girls in the midst of trashing the playroom (they play well but create DISASTERS!)

Little Halle was trying to keep up with the big girls (and she can pretty well!)

It cracks me up that Ella says "we're going to Hanna's new room! Heeeere weeee commme!!!"

Christopher danced all around in this doing his "elephant dance"

Chris made the kids popcorn and let them watch a VeggieTales video, what a fun dad :-)

Yes, that's two kids (one with wings) inside a Doll crib

And finally, a big part of the last few weeks has been visiting Ping and Drew and baby Silas. He's so adorable and Ella had fun getting to hold him all by herself :-)

Silas in here!!!!

I'm SO in love with my brand new nephew! Silas Wang-Shuai was born around 12:30pm today and weighs 8lbs 5oz. Everyone is doing great and he's a super cute, healthy little baby! I haven't been so excited in a long time :-) Yay Ping! And Yay God for answering our prayers for a short, safe delivery and a healthy baby! I'm SOOOO happy!!!

What a cute new family! Andrew, Ping, and Silas

Ella and I loving on Silas

Chris remembered that newborns are supposed to be able to mimic you if you stick your tongue out within hours of birth and Silas did it after a few tries!! Cute and smart!!
