Ella is 16 months old and has decided to walk this month! She's taken a couple steps at a time before but started walking between Chris and me a couple weeks ago and a week later choosing to walk on her own all over! She still falls after about 10-15 steps (or 3 or 4 sometimes) but is definitively walking :-)
She also got new open fit hearing aids recently and new hearing tests that make it seem like she has a sloping hearing loss like Chris (which makes a lot more sense than what they'd been telling us before-that it was a flat loss across all frequencies). She hears speech at 25-30 which is not bad at all (2o and under are normal). The new settings on her hearing aids (not nearly as loud as before) coupled with an open fit insert (allows the sound she can hear well to get in while ear molds do not) should cause her to leave her hearing aids in more and really help her hear better than she has been. Very exciting.
Ella is starting to say more and more words! She's just beginning to really mimic a lot of what we say. She used to only repeat words she was familiar with but now she seems more interested in just saying what we're saying. She was saying "apple" today rather recognizably. She signs but does not really say "please" and "thank you." She says "more," "all done," "duck,"dog," "turtle," "bath," "up," help," "mama," "dada," and "nana." She's getting very good at recognizing people and can pick them out of a crowd (nana, grandpa, aunt amy, christopher, hannah, aunt julie, aunt holly, uncle carl, lexie and probably a few more). She really understands so much!
She's very interested in the dogs right now and always want to play with them and go outside with them. She really wanted to give Brooklyn some water yesterday and was standing by the sink with Brooklyn's cup saying "he he" (which means help). She looked so pathetic I decided to put a little bit of water in the cup for her. She then tried to walk, holding a cup that is about the size of her whole torso, back over to the dog's dish. Since she's only been walking for about a week I knew this wouldn't go well and sure enough she fell and spilled the water after about 2 steps. She looked up at me looking so sad and I told her it was ok and turned to get a towel to clean up the water. When i turned back around she was trying desperately to pick up the water in her fingers and put it back in the cup. She's SOOOO cute!
Part of what I love about the girls' names is that they were both popular 100 years ago and many people with those names are now great-grandmas. Both names evoke a vision for me of sweet old ladies rocking away together on a porch. I pray Ella and Sadie will live meaningful lives full of love and will be enjoying each other on a front porch somewhere many years from now.

Ella's Schedule Birth through 15 months
I really should have started this a long time ago so I'd have a record of Ella's milestones and growth (because I'm sure I won't remember very well!). So, here's what I've written over the last year. Now I hope to update often.
Birth-5months
*followed most of babywise
*eating on 2 ½ hr schedule from 2weeks on except for extended night sleeping
*at 2 weeks old put her in her bed after a 10pm feeding and let her cry (were only going to let her cry 15 minutes, as per Babywise instructions), she cried for 13 min and then fell asleep, 11 min the next night etc. until she went to bed without crying almost every night (still happening at 16months)
*went to bed late (10ish) so her extended sleep would coincide with ours-worked well
*went through a phase at 3-4 months of getting “stuck” waking up every morning at 4am to eat, eventually slept through it if I let her cry
5-6 months
*eating every 3 hrs from 8am to 10pm
*naps at 10am (1-1.5hrs) and 3pm (2hrs) , bed at 10pm
*wakes up at 8am
6 months
*baby food at breakfast and dinner, 6 meals a day
*naps at 10am and 3pm, bed at 9pm
*wakes up at 7/7:30am, eats at 8am
*went through stage of getting up at 6:30am
7 months
*baby food at 3 meals, cut down to 5, then 4 meals a day
*naps at 9:30/10am (1.5-2hrs) and 5pm (1hr), bed at 8pm
*wakes up at 7/7:30am, eats at 8am
8-11 months-not much change
12 months
*went to 1 nap (she would sleep for 3 hrs if I didn’t wake her at her morning nap so just moved that nap later until she slept from 1-4), still gets up bw 7-8am and goes to bed bw 7-8am
13 months
*amazing stage where she sleeps every afternoon for 3-3 ½ hrs.! lasted about 2 month
14 months
*early in the month-waking up around 8:30am, nap from 1pm-4pm, and going to bed 7:30pm or 8pm
*later in the month because of teething and Chris being out of town (very upsetting to her) she’s now waking up earlier (bw 6 and 7:30am) and napping til about 3 or 3:30
15 months
*waking up bw 7-8am, napping shorter (1-3pm), bed bw 7-8pm
*for months has been eating 3 meals a day and usually a snack while we’re out in the morning and after her nap
*won’t give up the bottle-tried going cold turkey but she will cry hysterically for up to an hour if I put her down without it and immediately stops and goes to sleep when I give it to her…trying to wean her off by only giving her water in the bottle but she’s had the stomach flu so we’ll resume that when she feels better
